Childbirth

  • Greenhouse Birth Center - A great resource for moms and families in the Greater Lansing Area. The only freestanding birth center in Mid-Michigan. A variety of mom's groups are held at the GBC to discuss and share their ideas and experiences about parenting.

  • Lamaze International - Lamaze International envisions a world of confident women choosing normal birth.

  • Birthing The Future - A non-profit natural childbirth advocacy organization based in Colorado and founded by Suzanne Arms.

  • Sheila Kitzinger - Here you can explore aspects of birth, drawing on things that Sheila has learned from women around the world and her research as a social anthropologist into women's experiences of pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.

  • Penny Simkin - A doula for many years and author of several books, Penny Simkin has been nurturing positive birth memories since 1968.

  • Capital Area BirthNetwork - The Capital Area BirthNetwork is an organization of individuals and professionals committed to helping women and families in Mid-Michigan and the surrounding area have safe and fulfilling pregnancy and birth experiences while empowering them in their role as health care consumers.

Doulas

  • Mother Birth Doula - Having been interested in birth for as long as she can remember, Julie Brown was blessed to have the support of a doula for her son's birth which was what confirmed her desires to become a doula herself. Serving the greater Lansing area with both birth and postpartum doula care.
     

Breastfeeding

  • Bright Future Lactation Resource Centre Ltd - Supporting the people who support breastfeeding.

  • La Leche League International - La Leche League has a rich history and an established philosophy of mothering through breastfeeding, LLLI is the preeminent advocate for breastfeeding.

  • Jack Newman, MD - Dr. Newman, a Canadian, is an excellent resource for breastfeeding issues and information.
    This website has many articles available and they are updated at least every two years.

  • Jay Gordon, MD, FAAP, IBCLC - In the middle of his residency training, he took an unusual step. Deciding that he needed greater knowledge about nutrition, vitamins, and alternative medicine in order to practice medicine the way he wanted to, Dr. Gordon took a Senior Fellowship in Pediatric Nutrition at Sloan-Kettering Institute in New York City. Intensely interested in infant nutrition and breastfeeding, Dr. Gordon is the first male physician to sit for and pass the International Board of Lactation Certification Exam. He has served on the Professional Advisory Board of La Leche League for twenty years.

Babywearing

  • The Babywearer - Everything you ever wanted to know about babywearing...is right here. "Great Things About Babywearing" is an wonderful article that outlines the benefits of wearing your baby.

  • Lansing Babywearers - Lansing Babywearers meets the 4th Monday of every month at 10 am. Our meetings are held at St. David's Episcopal church, 1519 Elmwood Rd. That is 1/4 mile north of the Lansing Mall. Children are always welcome at Lansing Babywearers meetings.

Parenting

WAHM Sites - Created by local Moms

  • Blue Goose Designs™ - Started in 2005 after much success making Baa-Baby Wool Soakers™. It is owned and operated by Andrea, a GBC mom and work at home mom (WAHM) to Elissa (2003), Julian (2005), and Lorelei (2007) and wife to a very supportive husband. They offer exclusive hand knit wool soakers, shorts (shorties) and pants (longies), both organic and hand dyed. A variety of hand knit children's clothing items are also available in a rainbow of colors and fibers.

  • Jillian's Drawers - This is a small cloth diaper company dedicated to helping you find high quality diapers that work for you and your baby. Created in East Lansing, MI by a GBC mom, it  moved to Ithaca, NY in 2007 with its owner. They have used many different types of cloth diapers, some with great success, and others that left them disappointed. They only sell cloth diapers that have worked well for them and continue to receive excellent reviews... from moms in our local town to moms across the world. Excellent customer service and product knowledge.
